Effective Discipline for Attachment Challenged Children, Kristi Saul, MEd.

The therapist said, “He has to experience the consequences of his behavior” 

So we started by taking away privileges, then his belongings.

His response, “So what, I don’t care, take my stuff, I don’t give a #%@$”

We went back to the therapist.”You need to be more consistent with the consequences. He needs to really experience the result of his choices.”

So we became stricter, more severe in our consequencing and more withholding of our affection.

The result; he raged, tore up the house, threatened us all. 

We called the therapist, she said “Call the police or go to the emergency room and have him admitted to treatment as a danger to self or others.”

We went to the emergency room.

My son was admitted to treatment.

He was physically restrained and bruised, then medicated to sedation.

When he saw the doctor two days later he gained 2 new diagnosis and 3 medications.  

He stayed in treatment for 30 days until our insurance ran out and he was miraculously deemed safe enough to return home. 

He was distant, blunted, and angry.  

The side effects of the medicine were terrible.

My son is lost in haze of prescription drugs.
